Book: HE SHALL BE CALLED
Chapter: The Child Jesus
And when the parents brought in the Child of Jesus...
~Luke 2:27
Once and I was reading through the Nativity Account of Luke 1 and 2, I noticed something I hadn't seen before. Seven distinct people or groups celebrated that first Christmas, and they all responded the same way.
First, there was Elizabeth, Mary's relative, in Luke 1: "And Elizabeth was filled with the holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!' "
Mary responded: "My soul magnifies the Lord,/And my spirit has rejoiced in God my savior"
Zacharias, finally getting into the Christmas spirit, said: " Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,/ For He has visited and redeemed His people"
In Luke 2, we see the exuberance of the angels who were singing: " Glory to God in the highest,/And on earth peace goodwill toward men!"
in response, the shepherds rushed into town and saw the Christ child. Luke 2:20 says, "Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God."
Later, when Mary and Joseph took Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, they met two important figures, and old man named Simeon and an aged woman named Anna. Taking the Christ child in his arms, Simeon blessed God, saying; "Lord, now You are letting your servant depart in peace,/ Accourding to Your word"
Anna, "coming in that instant,... Gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to those who looked for the redemtion in Israel"
In my journal, I made note of this:
1. Mary said: "My soul magnigifies the Lord"
2. Zacharias said: "Blessed is the Lord god of Israel"
3. The angels said: " Glory to God in the highest."
4. Elizibeth, filled with the spirit, cried out with a loud voice.
5. The shepherds "returned , glorifing and praising God."
6. Simeon held the child in his arms and blessed God.
7. Anna gave thanks to the Lord and spoke of him.
How, then, should we spend Christmas this year?

What a blessing it is to know that we are called by The Lord to become apart with all these ones who brought glory to God and the Son!
the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever!
